Start with the Pinker reading on Politeness Theory, and hopefully that will get your brains churning with some ideas of how to present these subsequent theories of linguistic manipulation. Have fun!

Would you have to present theories of a linguist or linguists that have to do with your topic?

Any sources that seem in line with the kind of material we've been looking at so far should be appropriate...linguists, but also writers, philosophers, etc. Try looking at the TEDTalks website, and I'll send my book "Stuff of Thought" by Steven Pinker to study hall with Will tonight and you can look at what he says about metaphors (there is a whole chapter called "The metaphor metaphor"!). Really, these presentations are more like conversations starters.
